The Chevrolet Malibu replaced the Corsica sedan for the 1997 model year in November 1996.

Only for this model year did the 155-horsepowered LS sedans go on sale...

1998[]

...because in 1998, the Malibu LS was downgraded to 150 horsepower.

1999[]

The original 150-horsepower sedans, as well as the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, were last made for the Malibu in 1999. Also exclusive for this model year was the Gold Edition.
